Long Beach Fish Study

On June 9th, Friends of the Los Angeles River (FoLAR) hosted their Long Beach Fish Study Launch at the Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach, California. The study, which received both data and technical assistance from The Council for Watershed Health, was conducted to learn about the diversity of fish in the LA River’s estuary in Long beach. The study also acts a comparison of fish diversity between LA River’s estuary and higher headwaters (Glendale Narrows), which FoLAR studied in 2008. At 6pm guests we offered tours of the Los Angeles River Rover, a 38 foot Mobile Visitor and Education Center that travels throughout the city to educate citizens on the LA River ( After snacks and refreshments, a presentation was given on the methods, results, and implications of the study. Speakers included a variety of environmental advocates, biologists, and other LA River stakeholders.
